Questions about Sato

Find answers below, or get in touch if there’s something else you’d like to know.

Where can I download Sato?

Sato is on the App Store for iPhone, with widgets and an Apple Watch app. It needs iOS 18 or later, and watchOS 11 or later on the watch. Download Sato on the App Store.

What can I use for free?

Doses and schedules, daily tracking, food lookup and barcodes, charts, supply tools, dose conversions, Apple Health, progress photos, import, backup, export, and clinician summaries. See all free features.

What does Sato Plus add?

Sato Plus is an optional monthly or annual subscription for the full weekly report and archive, spoken check-ins, food photos, nutrition-label scans, cross-log patterns, a typical dose week, pattern findings in the clinician PDF, shared photos without the wordmark, and custom themes. You can also leave an optional one-time tip in Settings → Tip jar; a tip unlocks nothing. Compare the plans.

Does a spoken check-in upload my recording?

Yes. The recording goes through Sato’s backend to OpenAI for transcription, and the transcript is processed into draft entries. Sato asks before the first recording is sent, and you review everything before saving to your log. OpenAI does not use API recordings or transcripts for training by default. Sato keeps none of it, and OpenAI may hold it for up to 30 days for abuse checks. A check-in spoken on Apple Watch goes to your iPhone first and is sent the same way. Read about audio and transcript retention. How spoken check-ins work.

Does the weekly report use AI?

Only for the note at the top. The rest of the report is worked out on your iPhone. With Sato Plus, and once you allow it, Sato sends that week’s record through its service to OpenAI when the week closes, and OpenAI writes the note. The record can include weight, steps, workouts and nutrients read from Apple Health. The record has no name attached, and its days are numbered rather than dated. Turn off “Write the weekly note with OpenAI” in Settings → Cloud features and the note is written on your iPhone instead. See what is sent.

Can I use it without an account?

You do not create a Sato account. Apple services use your Apple account where relevant. Sato’s online features use an installation identifier for sessions and usage limits. For purchases, RevenueCat uses a random customer identifier kept in your iCloud Keychain, with no name or email attached.

Where does the food information come from?

Food search uses fatsecret. A scanned barcode is checked with Open Food Facts first, then fatsecret. Both need online food lookup on in Settings → Cloud features. Check the serving size and package label, since products and nutrition values can change. AI-generated nutrition values may be inaccurate. You can always enter a meal manually.

Is the medication curve my actual blood level?

No. It is a model based on your recorded doses and published parameters. It cannot measure your blood level or tell you to take, skip, or change a dose.

Can I track medication from a vial?

Yes. Supply tracking and conversion tools help organize vial details and convert a prescribed amount. Check concentration, total volume, and syringe type against the dispensing label with your pharmacist. Sato does not choose a dose or verify a medication’s source.

What if I stop subscribing?

You can keep using free Sato and accessing your saved log entries. Plus features, including weekly report pages and their archive, lock when subscription access ends. Files already exported remain where you saved them. Cancel Sato Plus through Apple; deleting the app won’t stop subscription billing.

Is this medical care?

No. Using Sato or contacting support does not create a clinician–patient relationship. Bring treatment questions to your own clinician.
